International Theodorakis Academy

The Academy has several goals at different levels: On the substantive level, it is the Bridging of the gap between musical hemispheres with a crosscultural dialogue in the universal language of music

the academy is interested in crosscultural exchange, public events, concerts, research as well on amateur, semiprofessionell or professional level.

The Academy is an Institution of Art. It is not planned explicitly political. Nevertheless a project based on inter-cultural exchanges, participation and public events might become finally a political.
When borders are crossed it involves new perspectives on traditional and outmoded conventions- and thus the freedom of art is the basic of the process!

The Academy is founded as virtual idea- it is an initiative of musicians, artists, scientists, who had the privilige to collaborate with Mikis Theodorakis and want to carry on the spirit and humanity of his work.
It is based on the support of its members, friends and of Mikis Theodorakis himself.
As “Academy in residence” it is connected to institutions like universities, societies, foundations.

The artistic 3 sources of Theodorakis work- Bycantine scales, Greek folkmusic, European western classical music are represented through the Academy in major cities and regions with a specific Theodorakis tradition: Istanbul, Berlin, Athens.
